This artwork is the stylized version of the fauvist painting by the Dutch artist Kees van Dongen from 1919. In this 3D version, Claudia Godoy not only “frees” Van Dongen's painting but also represents it with elegance, beauty and creativity. However, according to the sculptress, this was one of the her most challenging sculptures to date.

To reflect the use of red colours in fauvist paintings, Poppy was made in red highlights.
